Total Wine & More is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join our Data Services team in our Bethesda, MD office. We are embarking on a significant initiative to transform our Supply Chain process to include demand forecasting. The Senior Data Scientist will be responsible for leveraging advanced statistical models, machine learning, and econometrics to drive business value across Total Wine & More's demand planning application. We are looking for an individual who is skilled in all facets of the Analytics Lifecycle, including data gathering, data analysis, variable creation & selection, model building & selection, and visualization. This individual will work closely with the business, software development and support teams, infrastructure, and security staff and will enjoy learning and problem-solving in a fast-paced environment. You will report to the Principal Data Scientist ​ .

You will
  • Advance Total Wine & More's demand planning by building, evaluating, deploying, and supporting forecasts in partnership with the Supply Chain team
  • Build and manage machine learning and forecasting models through all phases of development from design, through training, validation, deployment, monitoring and measurement
  • Perform analysis related to forecasts as necessary
  • Communicate cross functionally with Supply Chain, Pricing, and Marketing teams to integrate causal impact of their business levers into forecasts
  • Update forecast processes and documentation to ensure they are efficient and reliable
  • Be proactive and take ownership of the projects and tasks assigned


You will come with
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year College or university in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field. Master's or PhD preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in data science, predictive analytics, econometrics or related fields
  • 3+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or related fields or 3+ years with Master's degree
  • Proven track record in building impactful solutions using time series analysis, predictive & prescriptive modeling
  • Experience in the use of machine learning, econometrics, predictive modeling
  • Experience in leveraging the cloud in the application of advanced analytics
  • Experienced with general programing, statistical languages, and deep learning packages used to manipulate data and build statistical and machine learning models at a large scale, such as Python, Spark, PyTorch, Tensorflow, Keras, SQL, and SQL-like query languages for NoSQL databases
  • Understanding of data science-related technology landscape, processes and design principles
  • Familiarity with data architecture, data engineering, data management, and data analysis tools and techniques with experience with cloud-based platforms (GCP), visualization tools (PowerBI, Looker), and development life cycle (SDLC)
  • Familiar with retail, wholesale, planning and allocation systems, or supply chain operations, preferred
  • Strong analytic skills, attention to detail, ability to multi-task, troubleshoot and problem solve along with the ability to make recommendations based on analysis are extremely important
  • Must possess excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
  • Must be self-managed, highly motivated and have a strong drive for results
  • Must be naturally able to exert influence, drive and steer stakeholders in the right direction
  • Proven, demonstrated capability in gathering and documenting complex business and functional requirements
  • Ability to grasp concepts quickly and reduce them to practice with little supervision in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage changing priorities and plan effectively in order to meet deadlines, analyze complex situations and to derive workable actions, and constructively challenge requirements and current state to increase overall value to the firm
  • Experience in building personalization-focused analytics a plus (e.g. recommendations, personas, etc), is preferred

The exempt compensation range for this position is $101,900 - $165,000. Compensation may vary based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, market location, job-related knowledge, skills and/or experience.
