Overview
The Principal Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, configuration, implementation, testing and transition to steady state support of Infrastructure such as: network, telecommunication, server, storage, or software across the enterprise. They will partner with peer engineering teams on best practices, process, standards, and configuration management. The role is responsible for delivering solutions that are stable, secure, scalable, and cost effective, as well providing escalation support to the administrators.

Overview
The Principal Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, configuration, implementation, testing and transition to steady state support of Infrastructure such as: network, telecommunication, server, storage, or software across the enterprise. They will partner with peer engineering teams on best practices, process, standards, and configuration management. The role is responsible for delivering solutions that are stable, secure, scalable, and cost effective, as well providing escalation support to the administrators.
Primary Responsibilities
- Evaluates vendor supplied hardware, components, and software packages for fit and performance and makes recommendations to IT management
- Diagnoses, Isolates, and modifies and/or debugs vendor-supplied utilities and packages performing problem resolution to hardware and software problems as required
- Maintains technical documentation for telecommunications, network, server, storage, and system software applications
- Operates as an escalation point to the administration function prior to engaging vendor for support and resolutions
- Lead regular interactions with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure the database integrity and security
- Coordinate maintenance activities across the team
- Participates in on call rotation
- Research, evaluate and recommend network-related software and hardware products and services
- Perform capacity and resource planning for network systems
Additional Primary Responsibilities
- Assess network risks and perform contingency planning
- Provide input to supplier management team to help establish the telecommunications and network-related vendor service agreements
- Design and implement an optimal configuration to maximize system performance and availability
- Install, configure, and maintain telecommunications and network systems (hardware and software)
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical communications and network issues (tier two support)
- Provide input to supplier management team to help manage telecommunications and network-related vendor service level agreements
- Stay up to date on telecommunications, networks, and network-related technologies
- Serve as a technical resource for infrastructure initiatives that require telecommunications or network expertise
- Coach and mentor others, especially more junior Engineers
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Technical Degree in related filed or a combination of work experience and education
- Nine (9)+ years of mastery level experience in a relevant Infrastructure or technical function
- Mastery level experience in telecommunications and networking environments, security, storage, server and other SGWS relevant technologies
- Mastery level experience with design, implementation, configuration, tuning and optimization of SGWS relevant technologies
- Ability to research, evaluate and recommend software and hardware products
- Excellent oral and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to analyze and solve problems
- Ability to lead small teams to complete assigned deliverables
- ITIL Foundation certified

- Physical demands include a considerable amount of time sitting and typing/keyboarding, using a computer (e.g., keyboard, mouse, and monitor), or adding machine
- Physical demands with activity or condition may include walking, bending, reaching, standing, squatting, and stooping
- May require occasional lifting/lowering, pushing, carrying, or pulling up to 20lbs
